Herbert Smith, 75, of 311 North Ave., Syracuse, died Thursday at his sons home. Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Smith lived in Syracuse throughout his adult life. Mr. Smith was a World War II Navy veteran. He was the owner of Herbies Drive-in restaurants in North Syracuse and Chittenengo. For several years, he established and ran the social functions and a blood pressure clinic for the residents of the Brick School Terrace Senior Citizen Building No. 1, where he lived. He was a member of Jewish War Veterans, Onondaga Post No. 131.
His wife, Sarah Kassel Smith, died in 1986.
Surviving is a daughter, Annette Murphy of Minetto; a son, William of Pompey; two brothers, Edwin of Florida and Bernard of DeWitt; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three aunts, a niece and two nephews.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Frumah Packard Cemetery.
