Mitchell Alan Lemelbaum, 49, of 527 Jamesville Ave., Syracuse, formerly of Cortland, died Thursday of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Born in Brooklyn, he was a 1973 graduate of the State University College at Cortland and received his master\'s degree from the Frostburg State University in Maryland. He was an adjunct professor of physical fitness at Syracuse University and taught first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation at Onondaga Community College and Tompkins-Cortland Community College. He coached lacrosse at Frostburg State University and Tompkins-Cortland Community College. He was the proprietor of Human Performance Fitness and Sports Training of Marcellus and the Sports Zone of Syracuse and was an official for the New York State Wrestling Federation. He was a member of American College of Sports Medicine, the Central New York Lacrosse Officials Association and the U.S. Weightlifting Federation. He officiated at lacrosse and weightlifting events at the high school and college levels. He served in the Marine Corps and the Army Reserves.
Survivors: A daughter, Tina Archambault of Florida; a son, Erik of Syracuse; his parents, Laurence and Bernice Lemelbaum of Coconut Creek, Fla.; a sister, Leslie Insalaco of Selden; two grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Birnbaum Funeral Chapel. Burial, Frumah Packard Cemetery.
