Jerry Happek, 93, died Saturday morning at James Square. Born in Germany, he was a survivor of the Holocaust. His family escaped Germany with a visa allowing them to enter Cuba; and then entered the US through NYC. They ultimately settled in Syracuse. Jerry graduated from the School of Architecture at Syracuse University in 1951 and joined a company in Buffalo. He later returned to Syracuse for work, and met his future wife, Natalie at a JCC dance. They were married in 1959, and made their home in the same house in DeWitt where they still live today. Jerry was a well respected architect throughout his career. Most recently he was associated with Galson and Galson. Jerry was a proud veteran of the US Army. He served in Military Intelligence due to his ability to speak several languages. He saw duty in Italy, N. Africa and Austria. He was passionate about classical music, was a skilled amateur photographer, and proud to have been a life member of the AIA. His family includes his wife, Natalie of 56 years; and their children, Wendy (Gregory Stauf) Happek, and Susan Happek. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 23 at Sisskind Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit with the family immediately prior to the service on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral chapel, 3175 E. Genesee Street. Burial will be in Frumah Packard Cemetery.
