January 15, 2004 Herbert Schechter, 84, of Atlantis, FL, Mr. Schechter was a retired Colonel of the USAF. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in China, Burma, India and Japan, as well as the Korean War. Colonel Schechter was both active and reserve at Syracuse and Griffith AFB for over 20 years. Herbert was a member of The Flying Tigers Organization, Temple Adath Yeshurun, Drumlins Country Club, and Onondaga Post 131 Jewish War Veterans. Survived by: his wife of over 57 years, Marilyn (Finkelstein); daughter Linda (Alan) Geldin; son Richard (Julie); granddaughter Stacey (Daniel) Goldsamt; grandson Brian Geldin; and great-granddaughter Eliana Goldsamt. Services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Birnbaum Funeral Chapel. Calling hour will be 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel, 1909 E. Fayette St. Burial will be in Frumah Packard Cemetery.
